Director of Institutional Giving

Part American palace, part industrial shed, Park Avenue Armory is dedicated to supporting unconventional works in the visual and performing arts that need non-traditional spaces for their full realization, enabling artists to create and audiences to experience epic and adventurous presentations that cannot be mounted elsewhere in New York City. Park Avenue Armory provides opportunities for employees to enrich and develop their love of the arts while contributing their specific skills, expertise, and talents.

The Director of Institutional Giving is responsible for the Armory’s foundation, government, and corporate fundraising, which accounts for approximately $2.5–2.7 million annually in general operating support and significant restricted support for key artistic productions, new initiatives, and the Arts Education program. Primary responsibilities include writing and managing proposals, reporting, and crediting for foundation grants, corporate sponsorships, and government funding, as well as cultivating and maintaining relationships with key contacts for these funders.

The Director of Institutional Giving reports to the Director of Development and takes direction from the Chief Development Officer and President/Executive Producer. The Director supervises a Manager of Institutional Giving and works collaboratively within a larger Development team of 11 staff.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

• Knowledgeable advocate for the arts with exceptional planning and organizational skills. Results and detail-oriented with the ability to set and meet multiple deadlines.
• Proven track record of successful fundraising proposals with exemplary writing skills and a strong understanding of budgets and nonprofit finance.
• Exceptional strength in organization, attention to and retention of details, and synthesizing of information and data.
• Excellent project and time management skills in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrated ability to take initiative, proactively manage multiple projects and priorities with concurrent and changing deadlines, and work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
• Ability to engage diplomatically with and engender the trust of donors, colleagues, and other stakeholders.
• Flexible and adaptable work style with the ability to manage competing demands, and work independently.
• Sound judgment, professionalism, and discretion in handling confidential information and sensitive matters.
• Ability to work onsite 5 days a week.
• Strong proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams/SharePoint, and PowerPoint, as well as in internet research; Tessitura experience a plus.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
• 5+ years of grant writing, institutional fundraising, or related experience, preferably in a performing or visual arts-related organization or cultural or educational institution.
• A bachelor’s degree is desirable or the equivalent combination of experience sufficient to successfully perform essential functions of the job.

COMPENSATION
Compensation is $105,000 - $125,000 annually, commensurate with experience. This is an exempt position.
