Part Time Box Office Lead

Part American palace, part industrial shed, Park Avenue Armory is dedicated to supporting unconventional works in the visual and performing arts that need non-traditional spaces for their full realization, enabling artists to create and audiences to experience epic and adventurous presentations that cannot be mounted elsewhere in New York City.

Part-Time Box Office Lead
Under the supervision of the Box Office Manager, the Box Office Lead sells tickets for in-person and over-the-phone transactions through Tessitura for more than 20+ Park Avenue Armory productions and events a year. Dependent on the event schedule, the lead serves as the box office manager on duty and occasionally oversees box office associates delegating tasks and projects. The Box Office Lead also serves as an ambassador for Park Armory by answering questions regarding past and future Armory productions, as well as providing exceptional customer service for all inquiries. The lead must be an excellent communicator who is enthusiastic, takes initiative, and excels in a fast-paced environment.

The Box Office Leads report to the Box Office Manager and take direction from the Director of Ticketing and Customer Relations and the Director of Marketing. The Armory’s Box Office includes a team of part-time Associates and leads who are generally scheduled for an average of 10-15 hours per week throughout the year, with heavier hours during production runs and on sales.

• Sell individual tickets and subscription packages in person and over the phone using Tessitura
• Act as the box office manager overseeing ticketing operation and supervising box office associates’ team to maintain a high level of accuracy, efficiency, and customer service
• Welcome patrons to the Armory in a friendly and professional manner while providing exceptional customer service
• Speak knowledgeably about past, current, and future Park Avenue Armory programming
• Accurately process cash and credit card payments & reconcile box office payments at the end of each shift
• Lead the Box Office team through event will-call ticket pick-ups, sales, and troubleshooting
• Oversee the wait list and standby line for tickets to sold-out productions
• Review and respond to ticket buyers’ concerns and feedback in a timely manner
• Promote Armory membership and communicate the levels and benefits in an engaging manner
• Process new memberships and renewals accurately
• Successfully complete ticket exchanges and refunds & processing internal ticket requests
• Create and update box office materials and resources
• Conduct ongoing staff training and provide daily updates for the Box Office Associates
• Assist with the daily operations of group sales for productions and private tours including customer service, fulfillment, billing, and follow-up
• Perform other Box Office duties as needed and assigned

Skills & Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function at a professional standard. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
• Excellent verbal communication skills and exceptional customer service skills, with a strong interest in performing and visual arts
• A proactive & enthusiastic attitude, with the ability to take initiative and excel in a fast-paced environment
• Skill in troubleshooting and problem-solving
• Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
• Availability to work a flexible schedule including late night shifts, weekends, and holidays
• Fully vaccinated, including a booster as soon as eligible, with a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and/or the World Health Organization authorized vaccine (or approved for an exemption as a reasonable accommodation due to a qualified disability or sincerely held religious belief)

Education & Experience
• 1+ year of customer service and cash handling experience or the equivalent combination of experience sufficient to successfully perform essential functions of the job
• Experience with the Tessitura Software is not required but preferred
• Experience supervising others and working with a team
