Part-Time Maintenance Staff

Part American palace, part industrial shed, Park Avenue Armory is dedicated to supporting unconventional works in the visual and performing arts that need non-traditional spaces for their full realization, enabling artists to create, students to explore and audiences to experience epic and adventurous presentations that cannot be mounted elsewhere in New York City.  Park Avenue Armory provides opportunities for employees to enrich and develop their love of the arts while contributing their specific skills, expertise, and talents.

PART-TIME MAINTENANCE STAFF
Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the Part-Time Maintenance Staff contributes to the general maintenance and repair of the building by working collaboratively with the Facilities team and other departments to ensure that the interior and exterior of the building are clean and safe for the staff and patrons. The Part-Time Maintenance Staff also assists with event setup and breakdown in concert with established organizational standards.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function to a high professional standard. A successful candidate will meet many of these requirements and have the desire and capacity to learn the rest on the job.

• Ability to perform basic repairs and operate hand and power tools or equipment used in routine maintenance, or ability to acquire such skill.
• Basic knowledge and understanding of mechanical, electric, and plumbing systems are a plus.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to communicate effectively with direct manager as well as the Facilities team.
• Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
• Must be available to work approximately 16-24 hours/week.
• Can handle multiple tasks at once and prioritize importance to make sure deadlines are met in a timely manner.
• Ability to work as part of a team or independently.
• Spanish language skills are a plus.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
• High school diploma or general educational development (GED)
• Prior experience working as a Custodian or similar role or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Prior experience in facility maintenance a plus.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, safety is always a priority.  The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.  The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock; and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to occasionally loud.

COMPENSATION
Compensation starts at $17/hour, commensurate with experience. This is a non-exempt position.
