Youth Corps Manager

Part American palace, part industrial shed, Park Avenue Armory is dedicated to supporting unconventional works in the visual and performing arts that need non-traditional spaces for their full realization, enabling artists to create and audiences to experience epic and adventurous presentations that cannot be mounted elsewhere in New York City.

The Armory’s Youth Corps program is a paid, mentored program for New York City youth. The Armory seeks a Manager for the Youth Corps program, a project-oriented internship that engages NYC public high school students and graduates through sustained, frequent exposure to and contact with a range of artists and art, and provides job and career training, leadership development, and essential communication and life skills. The position is full time, with some evening and weekend hours required. The Youth Corps Manager reports to the Director of Youth Corps.

• Plan and coordinate High School Youth Corps Internship program, including overseeing curriculum, calendars, and capstone project for each semester (fall, spring, and summer), in consultation with Education staff
• Co-teach High School Youth Corps Internship program alongside other program staff and teaching artists
• Provide day-to-day oversight of Youth Corps interns, together with other program staff and Director of Youth Corps
• Train and coach Youth Corps interns in Front of House positions, such as greeting and ushering, to empower students to provide excellent customer service to Armory patrons
• Coordinate, oversee, and maintain a work schedule/calendar of events for all interns, and associated communication with students and stakeholders
• Develop and maintain relationships with educators and internship coordinators at Youth Corps partner schools
• Coordinate and participate in the recruitment and hiring process for Youth Corps interns
• Maintain an organized workspace and well-stocked supplies for interns
• Support evaluation processes for Youth Corps
• Participate in weekly Youth Corps area meetings
• Participate in one-on-one support and mentoring to Youth Corps interns, both high school and post-high school
• Other duties as assigned, including supporting other Education Departments programs and Armory events and productions

• At least three years’ experience in arts administration/arts education/museum education and/or youth development
• Experience facilitating high school students in environments such as schools, camps, tutoring programs, after school programs, arts programs, etc.
• Familiarity and excellent rapport with young people in the New York City public school system
• An understanding of and enthusiasm for the mission of Park Avenue Armory and Armory arts education programs
• Ability to tackle multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously; energized by a fast-paced working environment
• Excellent written and verbal communication and listening skills
• Excellent attention to detail and organization skills
• Multilingual and/or a graduate of New York City Public Schools a plus
