2020 Gala: Just Kidding

We wish we were inviting you to another year of outside-the-box wonders that have defined the Armory’s Galas. If only we were talking about electric performers and dazzling designs, but all of that will have to wait for 2021 when we hope to bring back the magical evening we anticipate all year long.

This time, in lieu of a Gala we ask you to support what makes the Armory unique: the adventurous productions, the acclaimed Arts Education programs, and the beautiful building. While our doors have been closed, our commitment to artists and students has been unwavering. Our arts education programs with students from under-resourced New York City public schools have continued and even expanded as they have moved to virtual settings. In the face of unprecedented and uncertain times, the Armory’s arts education programs aim to offer thousands of students a creative community where reflection, critical dialogue and artistic expression are paramount.

Our programming team has also been steadfast in its support of artists and continues to plan and commission future works for the Armory. As always, artists remain at the heart of our work and we are committed to supporting our adventurous multi-disciplinary community—particularly as artists face so many challenges with performances and opportunities continuing to disappear. We are actively pursuing the rescheduling of the extraordinary productions meant to run in 2020 and we remain dedicated to our Artists-in-Residence and work to support them during this time.

We are also thrilled to launch our new Social Distance Hall season with original works by Bill T. Jones, Laurie Anderson and Jason Moran, and the trio Christine Jones, Steven Hoggett, and David Byrne. More news to come.

With your support, we can help keep the Armory an anchor of New York cultural life as the arts are part of what makes New York City the amazing place we know and love. Join us in looking forward to a time when we will again celebrate together.
