Health & Safety Guidelines

Park Avenue Armory with its vast, open-floored, high-ceilinged Wade Thompson Drill Hall, wide halls, and multiple points of entry is able to create a completely safe, social-distanced experience that cannot be provided in traditional performance venues with their fixed seating, cramped lobbies, and small entrances. The Armory has also excellent ventilation, having installed new MERV 14 air filters which exceed the standards for pandemic filtration; and with a protocol that flushes new fresh air into the Drill Hall before and after every performance.

The Armory has developed a very specific and rigorous set of protocols that takes full advantage of the Armory's open plan. The seats in the Drill Hall are single chairs set at least 9 feet apart. They have bins under the chairs for coats and bags. Audience members are led into the Drill Hall in single file at 6 feet distance to their seats in a careful choreography that avoids any cross-over. At the end of the performance, audience members wait in their seats to be led out in the same socially-distanced, single file pattern. All audience members, staff, crew, and performers must wear masks properly and at all times, with the exception of 2 singers and a clarinetist when performing who are kept at a distance of 13 feet or more from any performer or audience member, as approved by the New York State Department of Health. The Armory exceeds all safety protocols required by the CDC and the State of New York.

Health and Safety Protocols

To help ensure the health and safety of our audience, staff, and artists during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Armory will be implementing the following policies:

• All patrons are required to wear masks while inside the Armory. No mask, no entry. If you do not have an acceptable mask (including but not limited to cloth-based face coverings and disposable masks that cover both the nose and mouth), the Armory will provide one for your use. In accordance with Department of Health guidance, bandanas, buffs, and gaiters are not acceptable face coverings.

• All patrons will receive on-site rapid testing. Anyone with a positive test result will not attend the performance and will receive an automatic ticket refund to the original method of payment.

• All performers, crew, and staff are COVID-19 tested and screened on a bi-weekly basis.

• Patrons and staff must maintain physical distancing of 6 feet from others. Please follow directions from Armory staff as well as physical distancing markers and signage to ensure 6 feet distancing at all times.

• There will be no physical Box Office or Will Call at the Armory until further notice. All tickets will be electronic and must be purchased in advance of every program. The building will only be open during designated performance times for ticket holders. The Box Office will be available by phone at (212) 933-5812 or by email at solutions@armoryonpark.org Monday through Friday, from 10am to 6pm.

• By purchasing a ticket to Afterwardsness, you and each member of your party consent to be tested for COVID-19 on site at Park Avenue Armory by Elevation Health and that the results will be shared with the Armory for access to the performance.

• 48 hours prior to the performance patrons will be issued a secure COVID-19 Screening Questionnaire via email. Tickets will not be issued until we receive your fulfilled and completed survey.

• Seating for socially distanced performances will be general admission. Please consult your pre-performance email with your specific entrance information and arrival time. Should you require handicap accessible entrance or seating, please contact the Box Office at (212) 933-5812 or solutions@armoryonpark.org.

• Upon arrival, audience members must present printed or electronic tickets, which will be scanned via contactless ticket scanners to maintain social distance. Staff assistance will be available as needed.

• All patrons will have their temperature checked before entering the theater with a contactless thermometer. Patrons with a temperature greater than or equal to 100.4°F will be denied entry to the performance area. Temperature data will not be maintained by the Armory.

• Patrons are encouraged to bring as little as possible with them. Individual bins will be provided under the seats for coats, scarves, and small bags.

All house programs will be digital. Please look out for a pre-show email with links to the digital house program.

• Productions will be performed with no intermission to reduce contact with other patrons and staff.

Restrooms will be limited to comply with CDC guidelines. We encourage patrons to use the restroom before arriving to minimize lines and contact with other audience members, artists, and staff.

No food or beverages will be available at the performances. Drinking fountains will also be closed.

• Convenient hand sanitizer stations with at least 60% alcohol content will be located throughout the Armory for use by patrons, staff, and artists.

• The Armory has increased our cleaning and disinfection protocols for the building—with special attention to high touch surfaces, high-transit locations, seating, and shared objects—in accordance with CDC and New York City Department of Health guidelines.

• The Wade Thompson Drill Hall is equipped with large air handlers to provide outside ventilation and air filtration exceeding the standards of governmental regulations for filtration. These air handlers are designed to receive MERV 8 pre-filters and MERV 14 primary filters, which exceed ASHRAE post-pandemic recommendations for filtration. The Drill Hall systems supply seven times the outside air required per person by ASHRAE standards and the NYC Building Code.

• The Armory's engineering staff will change all air filters with increased frequency in accordance with ASHRAE guidelines.

The Armory and Elevation Health will be collecting contact information of ticket holders, staff, and artists for contact tracing purposes.

About On Site COVID-19 Rapid Testing at the Armory

In compliance with the New York State Department of Health Guidelines, the on-site audience COVID-19 test is an antigen test that requires a shallow swab administered by a licensed clinician from Elevation Health. After the swabbing, you will be directed to a socially distanced waiting room for 15 minutes to receive the results of the COVID-19 test and hear about the safety protocols within the building. If you test negative, you will stay seated in the waiting room until you are directed by Armory staff into the performance area. If you test positive, you will be escorted into a separate room and then exit the building. Your ticket will be refunded immediately to the original method of payment.
